Peru never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Wabash on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over the Apaches. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Bailee - 'Boo' Kintner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Peru got a massive performance out of Kaycee Leffler, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Leffler a new career-high. Lilly Steele was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.
Peru hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive contests.
South Bend Riley has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Peru, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.
South Bend Riley might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Peru in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
