Softball Recap: Schoolhouse Prep Comes Up Short

Schoolhouse Prep dropped down to 6-8 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Bishop Verot Vikings, falling 9-0. The Wolfpack were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Vikings' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Bishop Verot, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

For Bishop Verot's part, Payton Breadmore and Paige Bettermann made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Breadmore kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Bettermann tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Breadmore has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Breadmore went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Bettermann went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Breadmore a new career-high.

In other batting news, Abby Goff was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Willa Pagnutti, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Schoolhouse Prep will challenge East Ridge at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Wolfpack's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. Bishop Verot has already played their next matchup (against Westminster Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
