Gilmer is 3-0 against North Lamar since October of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Gilmer Buckeyes will be playing in front of their home fans against the North Lamar Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Gilmer on the road against Liberty-Eylau as the team secured a 56-12 victory. Given Gilmer's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Liberty-Eylau is ranked 668th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gilmer haved a senior duo take command as Jaden Edmond threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 passes and Dhrvay Smith rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Geramiah Noble did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 84 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, North Lamar came up short against Spring Hill on Friday and fell 42-34. It was the first time this season that North Lamar let down their fans at home.
Blake Hildreth put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 70 yards and a touchdown on only six passes. Hildreth was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards.
Gilmer's win bumped their season record to 4-3 while North Lamar's loss dropped theirs to 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Gilmer has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 285.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like North Lamar struggles in that department as they've been even better at 286.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Gilmer against North Lamar in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 42-6 win. Does Gilmer have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Lamar turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
