Lake Central scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Chesterton, 35-12. At the time, the Trojans was ranked 18th in the state, while the Indians was 31st.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lake Central, who took down 18th ranked Chesterton, 35-12.
Valparaiso's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. David Hittinger threw for 255 and three touchdowns and Stephen Simms had 130 yards receiving. On the ground Simms chipped in 96 yards. Zach Steiner helped Valparaiso's passing attack out by catching four balls for 85 yards.
Valparaiso's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Vikings feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Hittinger has thrown for 727 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Simms has 16 catches for 303 yards. Andrew Kittridge leads the league in rushing with 596 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Merrillville and Brad St. Germain's team. The Pirates enters the contest ranked 22nd in the state, while the Indians ranks 19th.
Hittinger and Simms provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Merrillville. The connection went for 74 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
