Softball Recap: Oskaloosa Starts Season with Victory Against Horton

Oskaloosa gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Horton Chargers with a sharp 14-4 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bears also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.

Lydia Turner and Parris Marsh did most of the damage at the plate: Turner went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, four RBI, and one run, while Marsh went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Karleigh Warriner, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Oskaloosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Horton only posted an OBP of .435.

Horton is on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Oskaloosa beat Horton by a score of 19-8 later that day.
