South Florence's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amari Gamble led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards. Those 16 points gave Gamble a new career-high. Allyson Watson was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds.
South Florence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Wilson's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 55-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lower Richland. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Diamond Hornets are ranked fifth).
Despite the defeat, Wilson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Logan Murray almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Murray has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Leah Spears, who posted nine points and six rebounds.
South Florence's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Wilson, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: South Florence has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Wilson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
South Florence came up short against Wilson in their previous matchup back in January, falling 43-32. Can South Florence avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
