Dakota has gone a perfect 10-0 against Chippewa Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cougars will square off against the Big Reds at 4:30 p.m. Dakota is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Dakota came out on top against Romeo on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Cougars walked away with an 8-4 win over the Bulldogs. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won nine in a row.
Alivia Reardon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jenna Higgins was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kiley Phelan, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Chippewa Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Anchor Bay.
Chippewa Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Frankie Goodrich, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Dakota's win bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Chippewa Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Chippewa Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dakota has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Chippewa Valley, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Dakota's sizable advantage in that area, the Big Reds will need to find a way to close that gap.
Dakota took their victory against Chippewa Valley in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
