The Torres Toros will head out on the road to face off against the Coalinga Horned Toads at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Torres walked away with it. They took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 43-14 victory over Immanuel. The win was nothing new for Torres as they're now sitting on three straight.
Torres' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jose Soriano, who threw for 228 yards and five touchdowns while completing 89.5% of his passes. Torres also got help from Amani Sua who showed off his sure hands for 87 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Coalinga was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Sierra Pacific 41-7 at home. With Coalinga ahead 28-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Coalinga can attribute much of their success to Noah Tasi, who threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Gavin Watson also helped out as he racked up 107 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Sierra Pacific to a paltry 52 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Coalinga's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. In that department, Angel Hurtado was the leader with three sacks.
Their wins bumped Torres to 8-3 and Coalinga to 9-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Thursday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Torres has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 412.9 total yards per game. However, it's not like Coalinga struggles in that department as they've been averaging 354.4 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
