Watkins Memorial extended their winning streak to five on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 6-3 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Northridge Vikings. Six seems to be a good number for the Warriors as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Kaden Barrows tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Watkins Memorial is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Aydan Guthrie was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.
As for Northridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.
On Northridge's side, Kash Reeves was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs Reeves has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Reeves wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noah Mason, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Coming up, Watkins Memorial will square off against Zanesville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Northridge, they will be playing at home against Utica at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
