The Nucla Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 52-35 to Dove Creek. That's two games in a row now that Nucla has lost by exactly 17 points.
Nucla's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lantry Galley, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Kendra McCluer, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Kalie Gatlin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Dove Creek, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Gatlin, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Nucla bumped their record down to 4-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Dove Creek, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Coincidentally, Nucla and Dove Creek will both be playing Ridgway the next time they take the court. Nucla will host Ridgway at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Dove Creek will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
