Softball Game Preview: South Hills Scorpions vs. Brewer Bears

For the second straight game, South Hills will face off against Brewer. The Scorpions will challenge the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Hills has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

South Hills heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Thursday. They lost 18-1 to Brewer. The Scorpions' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

For Brewer's part, Cozette Tyson made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Tyson has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kamren Pride and Alyssa Wilson did most of the damage at the plate: Pride fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Wilson fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Wilson has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Maddie Folsom, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Brewer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Hills only posted an OBP of .300.

Brewer has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for South Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 17-17-1.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Hills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .401. However, it's not like Brewer struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
