The Panther Creek Panthers and the Anna Coyotes squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Panther Creek Panthers had to settle for second. They fell to the Coyotes 42-38. Panther Creek's loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Panther Creek still got an impressive performance from Braxton Roberts, who threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Cristian Trickett was another key contributor, picking up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Panther Creek, adding 12 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Beckham Catmull: he added nine points with three field goals, and another three kicking extra points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Anna to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacob Emmers, who picked up 169 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Emmers was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 64 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ziondre Williams, who threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Panther Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Anna, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 12-1.
Panther Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Anna will head out on the road to face off against Stephenville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Stephenville is on a three-game streak of home wins, Anna a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
