Camp Point Central and Macomb are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Panthers will host the Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Camp Point Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Camp Point Central after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Illini West by a score of 5-4. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Chargers: they've now lost three in a row.
Karly Peters was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Macomb came into Monday's game having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Bushnell-Prairie City 21-6 on Monday. The Bombers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kendyl Danner and Josie Elbe were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Danner pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Elbe struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Danner has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Danner went 3-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs, while Elbe scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Danner a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lauren Bishop was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kinley Sloan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5.
Macomb was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Camp Point Central's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Macomb, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.
Macomb's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Camp Point Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Macomb, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Camp Point Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Bombers will need to find a way to close that gap.
