Softball Recap: Madison Highland Prep Takes a Loss

Madison Highland Prep extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 23 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-15 in the process. They came up short against the Highland Prep Honey Badgers, falling 23-3. The Heat were not able to make up for their defeat to the Honey Badgers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Abigail Casrrubias made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those runs were her first of the season. Madelyn Burboa was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Highland Prep, they moved to 4-12 with that victory, which also ended their 11-game losing streak. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

On Highland Prep's side, Sydney Mikkelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Mikkelson was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Highland Prep got a massive performance out of Alexis Rodda, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Rodda has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Aneyka Angulo, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Madison Highland Prep will take on Tempe Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 25.09 runs per game on average), something the Heat will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Highland Prep, they are taking a road trip to take on Parker at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
