Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond and Argenta-Oreana are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Knights will head out to face off against the Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since April 15, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman by a score of 4-2.
John Williams put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Williams was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Williams wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddix Stirrett, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Argenta-Oreana). They were the clear victors by a 19-12 margin over Unity Christian on Thursday. The Bombers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Like Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, Argenta-Oreana also got a great game from a two-way player: Carter Logue. Throwing, Logue struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lucas Camfield tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Argenta-Oreana's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). At the plate, Logue went 2-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Camfield went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Logue has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, CJ Fisher was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kharsen West, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.
Argenta-Oreana kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Argenta-Oreana's record now sits at 9-6. As for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Argenta-Oreana struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond was able to grind out a solid victory over Argenta-Oreana when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
