There's no place like home for the South Lake Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Thursday. Everything went their way against East Ridge on Friday as South Lake made off with a 63-38 win. Given South Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while East Ridge is ranked 639th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Lake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alijah Curry, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Clark, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
When it comes to explaining why East Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nicholas Vazquez. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Vazquez is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Jordan Corman was another key contributor, scoring two points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, East Ridge were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. This was only their 11th loss (out of 11 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
South Lake's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for East Ridge, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-18.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Lake will take on Mount Dora at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Dora has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7. As for East Ridge, they will head out on the road to challenge Umatilla at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Umatilla is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
