This season hasn't been kind to The Ballinger Bearcats, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They took a 34-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brady on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ballinger in their matchups with Brady: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Ballinger still got an impressive performance from Zach Canada, who rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown. Canada was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. Manny Gonzalez was another key contributor, picking up 93 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Brady was led to victory by Zeke Jones and Daryl Adair. Jones rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, while Adair rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
Ballinger's defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Clyde and 7-0 Stamford (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.2% over those games). As for Brady, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ballinger will take on San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brady, they will be playing at home against Grape Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Grape Creek comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
