Wheeling Central Catholic was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Wheeling Central Catholic 17-13. The Maroon Knights came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 31 last week.
Wahama extended the longest winning streak in Freelance this week by beating Waterford, 64-35. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Van's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brandon Elswick threw for 87 yards and Justin Lambert had 46 yards receiving. On the ground Logan Crouse chipped in 45 yards. Tyler Workman helped Van's passing attack out by catching one ball for 16 yards.
Van's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Elswick has thrown for 240 yards this season, while Lambert has 12 catches for 152 yards. Elswick also leads the league in rushing with 252 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Hannan takes on Tug Valley. At the moment, the Wildcats are in 15th, while the Panthers are in fourth.
Logan suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 20-0 loss to Logan. The Wildcats had been ranked 11th, but fell to 27 following the defeat.
