Baseball Recap: Canton Has No Trouble Against Yazoo City

Canton won the last time they faced Yazoo City and things went their way on Friday too. The Tigers put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 17-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Elijah Kiner was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Kiner was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last ten times he's played.

In other batting news, Canton let Jahmad Taylor and Tytrevian Greenwood run wild. Taylor went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI, while Greenwood scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. With that strong performance, Taylor is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Sadrevian Devine was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

Canton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 8.8.

The win made it two in a row for Canton and bumps their season record up to 9-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.5 runs over those games. As for Yazoo City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

Canton will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
