The Southport Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Greenwood Woodmen at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Southport is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Southport's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Warren Central 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Nick Godsey made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Collin Matlock, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Austin Van Velse also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Southport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Greenwood came up short against Perry Meridian on Wednesday and fell 9-4. The Woodmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Greenwood saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Pierce, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Southport is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Southport suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Greenwood when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
