Shawnee is a perfect 3-0 against Marion Local since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Indians will be playing in front of their home fans against the Flyers at 5:30 p.m. Shawnee is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Shawnee came up short against Bath and fell 10-7.
AJ Croft was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Cam Barker was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Marion Local made easy work of Parkway on Thursday and carried off an 11-4 win. Considering the Flyers have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Parker Hess made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ethan Heitkamp was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ian Rindler, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Marion Local hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Parkway struck out seven times.
Marion Local pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Shawnee, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Shawnee skirted past Marion Local 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Flyers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
