Softball Recap: Oasis Takes Down Gateway Charter in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Oasis had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Gateway Charter Griffins on Tuesday. The Sharks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by nine runs or more this season.

Kyra Cavender and Meesha Neujahr were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Cavender struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Neujahr struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Cavender has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cavender got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Neujahr got on base in two of her three plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs Neujahr has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Oasis got a massive performance out of Emma Neujahr, who went 1-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Neujahr has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn McGee, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Oasis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gateway Charter only posted a batting average of .062.

The win snapped Oasis' losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 13-12 record. As for Gateway Charter, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11-1.

Coming up, Oasis will face off against Bishop Verot at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Sharks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. Gateway Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
