It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Tahoka had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Sudan Hornets. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brogan Stone made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Stone was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Tahoka let Jordan Hicks and Sam Kessler run wild. Hicks got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Kessler got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Tahoka is undefeated when Hicks posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Cayden Gutierrez was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Tahoka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sudan only posted an OBP of .429.
The victory (which was Tahoka's third in a row) raised their record to 12-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sudan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-11.
Looking ahead, Tahoka will challenge Gruver on Thursday. The Greyhounds will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. Sudan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
