The Lancaster Red Devils will venture away from home to take on the Essex Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
Things were looking good for Lancaster after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rappahannock. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kelsie Cox was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Essex). Everything went their way against Colonial Beach on Thursday as they made off with a 25-14 win. Considering the Trojans have won five games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Makiryn Williams was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenedi Campbell, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Essex always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .811. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .524 that Colonial Beach posted.
The victory made it two in a row for Essex and bumps their season record up to 6-9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Lancaster, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lancaster hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Essex struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lancaster might still be hurting after the 12-5 defeat they got from Essex in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
