5A Region III District 18 recap Sept. 26, 2012
MacArthur moved up to 714 from 969 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 18. The Generals climbed the ranks as a result of a 35-20 win over Ball.
Nimitz took down Oak Ridge 37-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Alief Elsik's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Caleb Bedford threw for 87 yards and Jimmy Arvie had 24 yards receiving. On the ground Bedford chipped in 30 yards. Casey Williams helped Alief Elsik's passing attack out by catching three balls for 22 yards.
Alief Elsik's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bedford has thrown for 329 yards and one touchdown this season, while Williams has 12 catches for 240 yards. Caleb Cormier leads the league in rushing with 141 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Rams take on Alief Taylor. Alief Elsik is in fourth place, while the Lions are in third place.
Alief Taylor and Angleton played the most hotly contested game in 5A Region III District 18 this week, with Alief Taylor eventually emerging with a 8-7 victory.
