Aitkin is 8-2 against Staples-Motley since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Aitkin Gobblers' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Staples-Motley Cardinals at 7:15 p.m. on February 8th. Aitkin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings (they are ranked 370th, while Staples-Motley is ranked 184th).
Last Tuesday, Aitkin was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Pierz.
Even though Staples-Motley has not done well against Pillager recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Staples-Motley walked away with a 65-54 victory over Pillager. The win was just what Staples-Motley needed coming off of a 70-50 loss in their prior match.
Aitkin's defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Staples-Motley, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
Aitkin came up short against Staples-Motley when the teams last played back in March of 2023, falling 54-46. Can Aitkin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
