The Naugatuck Greyhounds will square off against the Cheshire Rams at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Naugatuck sitting on five straight wins and Cheshire on seven.
On Wednesday, it was close, but Naugatuck sidestepped St. Paul Catholic for a 2-1 victory. The two-run effort marked the Greyhounds' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Damon Abate was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Cheshire nor Foran made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Rams narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Lions 3-1.
Dylan Scalice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bennett Crerar, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Michael Chopak, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Cheshire hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.
Cheshire pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Naugatuck, their record is now 13-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Naugatuck has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cheshire struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Naugatuck was able to grind out a solid victory over Cheshire in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, winning 10-6. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
