Dixie County has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Pahokee Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Dixie County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Pahokee is ranked 139th).
Last Friday, Dixie County never let their opponents score. They walked away with a 12-0 win over North Florida Educational Institute. The win was just what Dixie County needed coming off of a 42-8 defeat in their prior matchup.
Pahokee never got on the board in their matchup back in October, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Glades Central last Friday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 55-22 victory over the Raiders. Pahokee pushed the score to 35-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Glades Central had little chance of recovering from.
Pahokee's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jenorris Wilcher jr, who rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Hardley Gilmore, who picked up 158 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Dixie County to 7-3 and Pahokee to 5-4.
Dixie County skirted past Pahokee 16-13 when the teams last played back in November of 2015. Does Dixie County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pahokee turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
