Despite the defeat, The Webb Schools saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ethan Hao went 8 for 12 on his way to 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hao has scored all season.
Meanwhile, El Rancho waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-42 win over the Matadors.
The Webb Schools better keep an eye on Adam Rivas. He was instrumental in El Rancho's win, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards. Rivas has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Alex Marquez was another key player, putting up five points.
El Rancho smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.
El Rancho is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.4 points per game. As for The Webb Schools, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: The Webb Schools has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like El Rancho struggles in that department as they've been averaging 21.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
The Webb Schools might still be hurting after the 63-41 defeat they got from El Rancho in their previous matchup back in November of 2023.
