Brandeis is a perfect 6-0 against Churchill since November of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Broncos will take on the Chargers at 2:00 p.m. Brandeis will be strutting in after a victory while Churchill will be coming in after a loss.
Brandeis took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past LEE, posting a 41-7 win. The contest marked the Broncos' most dominant victory of the season.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Brandeis, racking up 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Layne Watkins, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Churchill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 28-21 to Clark. The Chargers were up 21-0 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Brandeis will have to contain Kalobe Rond as he made an impact in Churchill's last game. He rushed for 147 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
Even if they lost, Churchill's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Ethan Byrd was especially locked on to Clark's QB and sacked him twice. Byrd has been hot recently, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last three times he's played. Another thorn in Clark's side was Justin Mason, who picked up a sack and made 16 total tackles.
Brandeis' win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 45.4 points this season. As for Churchill, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Saturday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Brandeis has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 247.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Churchill, though, as they've been averaging only 86.8 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Brandeis strolled past Churchill in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 45-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
