Clair Ferebee made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Saylor Hoggard was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Halifax Academy fell victim to Cape Fear Christian Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-0. Vikings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Thursday.
Payton Odom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits.
Lawrence Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. As for Halifax Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-9-1.
Halifax Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lawrence Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .384. It's a different story for Halifax Academy, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Lawrence Academy's hitters?
Lawrence Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Halifax Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
