Gadsden City has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Lee Generals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gadsden City will be strutting in after a win while Lee will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Gadsden City really took it to Mae Jemison for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-13 victory at home. Given Gadsden City's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Mae Jemison is ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gadsden City's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Luke Waldrop, who threw for 112 yards and three touchdowns, and Tj Worthy, who gained 95 total yards and two touchdowns. D'andre Kirkpatrick jr made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Lee came up short against Buckhorn on Friday and fell 34-22.
Gadsden City's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3. They've been dominating across those contests too: they took their wins by an average of 40 points. Lee has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Gadsden City against Lee when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 55-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gadsden City since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
