The St. Croix Falls Saints will square off against the Cumberland Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
St. Croix Falls fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Cameron on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Comets by a score of 9-7. Saints fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Comets since on Thursday.
Faith Allram put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 8.1 innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Allram was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Emilee Glenna was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Catherine Williams, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cumberland). They blew past Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 22-4 on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Beavers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Like St. Croix Falls, Cumberland also got a great game from a two-way player: Morgan Monchilovich. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Monchilovich has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cumberland let Baleigh Stouffer and Macy Beecroft run wild. Stouffer went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Beecroft went 3-for-4 with five runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those five runs gave Beecroft a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaely Wenzel, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Cumberland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cumberland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for St. Croix Falls, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
St. Croix Falls couldn't quite finish off Cumberland in their previous matchup back in April and fell 3-1. Will the Saints have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
