The Greater Cabarrus S Stallions will venture away from home to square off against the Charlotte Latin Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Greater Cabarrus S came up short against Piedmont Community Charter and fell 10-5.
Julianne Throckmorton was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Cayla England was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Latin put another one in the bag two weeks ago to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Sun Valley 11-3. Considering the Hawks have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sydney Thune and Ainsley Sullivan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Thune struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Sullivan struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Furthermore, Thune didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At bat, Thune went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Sullivan went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Caroline Coble was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Talia Hawa, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.
Charlotte Latin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Charlotte Latin's record is now 8-0. As for Greater Cabarrus S, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greater Cabarrus S has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Charlotte Latin struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Greater Cabarrus S suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Charlotte Latin in their previous meeting on March 3rd. Can Greater Cabarrus S avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
