The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Colby Mullinax, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in blocks (three). Quincy Anderson was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.
Even though they lost, Thomas County Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Veterans suffered their biggest defeat since January 10th on Friday. They lost 80-58 to Lee County. The Warhawks haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Thomas County Central will have to keep a close watch on Jaivyon Dawson and Tristen Abner, a pair of players who had a big impact on Veterans' prior game. Dawson went 6 for 7 en route to 15 points, while Abner almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. Abner has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 11 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Sweenor, who posted 15 points.
Veterans' loss dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Thomas County Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-10.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Thomas County Central hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.6 points per game. However, it's not like Veterans struggles in that department as they've been averaging 59.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Thomas County Central didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Veterans in their previous meeting last Friday, but they still walked away with a 67-62 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sweenor, who put up 24 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Thomas County Central still be able to contain Sweenor? There's only one way to find out.
