Maize South was the 50-46 winner over Derby when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Maize South Mavericks fell 66-57 to the Derby Panthers on Friday. One positive for the Mavericks, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Maize South's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-4. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Derby, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Maize South and Hutchinson will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Hutchinson has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 184 points over their last three games. As for Derby, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Derby Panthers challenge the South Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Derby knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully South likes a good challenge.
