The Fairhaven Blue Devils will challenge the St. John Paul II Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Fairhaven 4, St. John Paul II 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Fairhaven's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Seekonk hitters got past them. The Blue Devils lost 14-2 to the Warriors on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 2, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Meanwhile, St. John Paul II put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Martha's Vineyard Regional get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by nine runs or more this season.
Henry Roy and Tyler Ross made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Roy tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ross didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, Roy posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Roy went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Ross went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, St. John Paul II let Logan Our and Brandon Gomes run wild. Our went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Gomes got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave Our a new career-high.
St. John Paul II's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Fairhaven, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Fairhaven couldn't quite get it done against St. John Paul II in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 6-1. Will the Blue Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
