It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Sierra Vista Dons ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Garden Grove 54-52. The victory was just what Sierra Vista needed coming off of a 77-48 defeat in their prior match.
Sierra Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aaron Buna led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six assists and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Anson Wei, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Sierra Vista has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Garden Grove, they bumped their record down to 5-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
Sierra Vista's road trip will continue as they head out to face Chaparral at 5:30 p.m. on December 22nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Chaparral is ranked 582nd, while Sierra Vista is ranked 585th). Garden Grove will finish 2023 at home by hosting Savanna at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
