The Silver Lake Mustangs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Gibbon on the road to the tune of 59-15. Silver Lake might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three matchups by 27 points or more this season.
Silver Lake found their leader in underclassman Sophie Schmidt, who scored 14 points along with nine steals. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for Schmidt. Another player making a difference was Makenna Karr, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Gibbon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carla Murillo-Corona, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for Murillo-Corona. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Sell, who scored two points along with nine rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Gibbon struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Silver Lake racked up 17 assists.
The victory was the third in a row for Silver Lake, bringing their record for this year to 4-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 38.67 points. As for Gibbon, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Silver Lake will head out on the road to face off against Kenesaw at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Kenesaw focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. Gibbon will be home for the holidays to greet Wood River at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
