City University School of Liberal Arts pushed their score all the way to 61 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hillcrest. While losing is never fun, City University School of Liberal Arts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Vikings are ranked 117th).
Several City University School of Liberal Arts players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kevion Robertson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Robertson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last eight games he's played. Cohen Butler was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Hillcrest's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Allen, who dropped a double-double on 38 points and 11 assists. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Allen has scored at least a third of Hillcrest's points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Herron, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
City University School of Liberal Arts now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Hillcrest, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. City University School of Liberal Arts won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Westwood has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Oakhaven is on a three-game streak of home wins, the Vikings a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
