Baseball Recap: Vanlue Takes a Loss

Vanlue had lost 14 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-18 to make it 15. They came up short against the Ridgedale Rockets, falling 15-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-2 on Saturday.

Landen Hansen was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and one run. That run was his first of the season. Jasper Musgrave was another key player, earning one run and three stolen bases.

As for Ridgedale, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-8. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Ridgedale's side, Ayden Salyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Salyer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Brody Mawer was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Hutchinson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vanlue will venture away from home to take on Crestline at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Ridgedale, they will head out to face off against Elgin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Comets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
