Basketball Recap: Elijah Englemen and Sir Stirling Secure Win for Hughes

Hughes posted their biggest win since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 69-47 margin over the Withrow Tigers. For the BIG RED, this counts as revenge for the 42-36 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.

Hughes was led to victory by Sir Stirling and Elijah Englemen. Stirling dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards, while Englemen went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points along with five boards and four steals. Englemen's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of LeShawn Hill, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Hughes was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

Hughes now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Withrow, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Hughes wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 69-45 defeat against Archbishop Moeller on the 14th. Withrow and Aiken will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Aiken will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Withrow surely won't give up without a fight.
