Hernando has gone 8-2 against South Sumter recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Leopards will challenge the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Hernando is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
Hernando's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Central as they made off with a 16-0 victory. Fans of the Leopards have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Austin Knierim was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Knierim was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Waylon Williamson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Billy Ward, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Hernando kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, South Sumter came up short against Wesley Chapel on Wednesday, falling 14-6. The matchup marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Ismael Rodriguez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Tyson Lake also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Hernando's record is now 3-0. As for South Sumter, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hernando has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Sumter struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hernando couldn't quite finish off South Sumter in their previous meeting back in March of 2025 and fell 8-6. Can the Leopards avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
