With a playoff win on the line, Cathedral rose to the challenge on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Purdue Polytechnic Techies 64-34. The Fighting Irish have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.
Leading Cathedral to victory were Tianna Guy and Caroline Wiggins. Guy went 9 for 16 en route to 22 points and six rebounds, while Wiggins dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Wiggins a new career-high in steals (six). Another player making a difference was Jaeda Wilson, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.
Cathedral was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purdue Polytechnic only racked up two assists.
Several Techies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Te'Asia Briscoe, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Briscoe is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayler Denton, who had 11 points.
The victory (which was Cathedral's fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points over those games. As for Purdue Polytechnic, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.
Cathedral wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-34 win against Purdue Poly Englewood on the 8th. Purdue Polytechnic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
