Baseball Recap: Botkins Has No Trouble Against Fairlawn

Botkins won the last time they faced Fairlawn and things went their way on Friday too. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Jets. Considering the Trojans have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Will Monnin was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Monnin was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, Levi Frey was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Botkins is undefeated when Frey posts two or more runs, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Corey Koenig, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Botkins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Botkins is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fairlawn, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

Coming up, Botkins will be playing at home against Anna at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rockets will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fairlawn, they will face off against Emmanuel Christian Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
