The team relied heavily on Lillie Nye, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Coutcher, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Maumee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while it was Genoa Area who put the first runs on the board on Monday, it was Otsego who put up more. The Comets fell just short of the Knights by a score of 19-18. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (12), the Comets still had to take the loss.
Genoa Area got a massive performance out of Izzy West, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Makenna Nehls also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Genoa Area has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Maumee, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Genoa Area's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Maumee has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Genoa Area, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Maumee's sizable advantage in that area, the Comets will need to find a way to close that gap.
Maumee got the 'W' in their previous matchup on Friday against Genoa Area by a conclusive 14-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
