Make it eight blowout wins for the Canyon Springs Cougars this season. They blew past Vista del Lago 83-58. The victory was nothing new for Canyon Springs as they're now sitting on three straight.
Canyon Springs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derek Williams, who scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Vann, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Vista del Lago lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Johnny Cowart. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Freddy Alarcon, who scored 12 points.
Canyon Springs' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Vista del Lago, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Springs will face off against Paloma Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Paloma Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups. Vista del Lago won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Moreno Valley at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Moreno Valley is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.5 points per game.
