Verdugo Hills hasn't had much luck against Chavez recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Dons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Verdugo Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Verdugo Hills' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Saturday. They blew past South Gate 21-0. That looming 21-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Dons yet this season.

Kaitlyn Barba was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Madesyn Meadows and Emily Wagner did most of the damage at the plate: Meadows went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Wagner went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Aurora Mares was another key player, going 1-for-2 with five RBI, one triple, and one run.
Verdugo Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Chavez didn't have quite enough to beat Vasquez on Saturday and fell 6-4.
Alyssa Anaya was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Melody Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
The win got Verdugo Hills back to even at 3-3-1. As for Chavez, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Chavez's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Verdugo Hills has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Chavez, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Verdugo Hills' sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Verdugo Hills came up short against Chavez in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Dons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
