After flying high against Newberry Academy last Tuesday, the Cambridge Academy Cougars came back down to earth. Cambridge Academy took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Covenant School on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cambridge Academy in their matchups with New Covenant School: they've now lost four in a row.
Cambridge Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jillian Mapes, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Indya Southerland, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Cambridge Academy has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season. As for New Covenant School, their win was their 20th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cambridge Academy will take on Wardlaw Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wardlaw Academy and Cambridge Academy are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. New Covenant School won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Oakwood Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
