3A Western Slope recap September 4, 2013
Rifle's Brock Clark rumbled for the longest rushing play in 3A Western Slope this season in his game against Coal Ridge last week. Clark's team topped the Titans as he sprinted for 80 yards on the play and finished with 144 in all.
Fans got a thrill when Jonathan Walck and Keegan Ralstin connected against Cedaredge. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 56 yards.
Delta's dynamic duo of Cade Gafford and Ryan Whiteside proved tough for Gunnison to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gafford threw for 231 yards and 4 touchdowns and Whiteside had 162 yards receiving. Devin Williams helped Delta's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 40 yards.
The Panthers' dynamic duo of Gafford and Whiteside proved to be unstoppable against the Cowboys, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Gafford put up the best numbers through the air as Delta bested Gunnison.
Whiteside was the best receiver in the league this week as Ben Johnson's team topped Bob Howard's team.
He was 14-21 with 0 interceptions.
Clark was the most successful running back in 3A Western Slope this week. Kellin Leigh also contributed to the rushing game with 92 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Panthers' Gafford and Whiteside have proven to be a lethal combination. Gafford has thrown for 231 yards this season, while Whiteside, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 10 catches for 162 yards. Rifle's Clark leads the league in rushing yards with 144.
An important game coming up this the league this week will be when Damon Wells' team takes on Moffat County. The Bears are in first place, while the Bulldogs are in seventh place.
Delta was the team made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to fourth in the league. The Panthers beat the Cowboys 39-7 earlier in the week.
